Murfatlar

Region Insight

Murfatlar is a coastal wine region in southeastern Romania, near Constanța on the Black Sea and within the historical Dobrogea area. Its modern reputation grew around a large state-owned winery established in the 20th century that produced both table and dessert wines; since privatization the area has seen investment and modernization. Vineyards sit on gently rolling hills and plains and produce a mix of international and native varieties. Wines range from ripe, approachable red blends and single-varietal Merlot or Cabernet to fresh, dry whites; producers also make late-harvest and sweet styles rooted in local tradition. The region combines maritime breezes with long, sunny growing seasons.
