Valdobbiadene

Region Insight

Valdobbiadene sits in the rolling hills of Veneto, northeast Italy, at the heart of the Conegliano-Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore area. Renowned for its sparkling wines, the zone combines centuries-old vine-growing traditions with modern winemaking, producing lively, aromatic Prosecco styles. Vineyards climb steep, terraced slopes and include the famed Cartizze hill for premium cuvées. The landscape and cultural viticulture of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene are recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Most wines are made in the tank (Charmat) method, emphasizing fresh pear, citrus and floral notes; producers range from small family holdings to cooperatives and boutique estates focused on site expression.

Climate & Terroir

The area has a cool continental climate tempered by proximity to the Adriatic, producing marked diurnal temperature variation. Vineyards occupy steep, often terraced slopes up to about 500 meters, with soils of calcareous marl, sandstone and clay that are well drained. Complex aspects and microclimates yield wines with lively acidity and pronounced aromatic lift; soil variability supports distinct site-driven expression across short distances.
