Vicenza

Region Insight

Vicenza, in the heart of the Veneto region, is a compact but diverse wine area centered on the city and its surrounding hills. Historically overshadowed by nearby Verona and the Prosecco zone, Vicenza is home to distinctive DOCs such as Gambellara and Breganze and the Colli Berici zone. Producers fashion dry and sparkling Garganega whites in Gambellara, luscious passito Torcolato from Vespaiolo in Breganze, and a mix of approachable reds and aromatic whites on the Berici slopes. The region combines long local traditions with modern cellar techniques, producing wines that balance freshness, textural richness and regional personality.

Climate & Terroir

Vicenza has a mainly continental climate moderated by influences from the nearby Adriatic; summers are warm, winters cool. Vineyard sites range from basaltic and volcanic soils around Gambellara and parts of Breganze to clay and limestone on the Colli Berici. Many parcels sit on gentle slopes offering good drainage and sun exposure, contributing to ripe fruit and clear varietal expression.

Signature Styles

  • Garganega-based dry and sparkling whites (Gambellara)
  • Torcolato passito sweet wines (Breganze, Vespaiolo)
  • Hilly red and white blends from Colli Berici
