Fetească Albă is a white grape variety with origins in Central-Eastern Europe, particularly Romania and the Republic of Moldova. Its cultivation dates back centuries, thriving in cooler continental climates and on rolling hills with diverse soils, including loam and clay-limestone. The vines exhibit moderate vigor, yielding medium harvests and ripening relatively early to mid-season. Well-drained sites are preferred to maintain its characteristic acidity. Wines made from Fetească Albă are typically light to medium-bodied, showcasing crisp acidity and moderate alcohol levels. Phenolic bitterness is minimal, and tannins are virtually absent. The aromatic profile is delicate, featuring notes of white flowers, green apple, pear, and subtle hints of white stone fruit, sometimes with almond nuances as it matures. It is used to produce a range of styles, from fresh, unoaked dry wines to off-dry, sweet, and sparkling variations.
