Colli Euganei

Region Insight

The Colli Euganei are a compact, volcanic island of hills rising from the Venetian plain southwest of Padua. The appellation is prized for lively, aromatic whites—most famously Moscato Fior d'Arancio in dry, sparkling and passito expressions—and for supple, often Merlot-dominated reds that marry freshness with ripe fruit. Vineyards cling to sunlit slopes and terraces, producing wines of clear regional identity that balance Alpine-continental freshness with Adriatic warmth. Winemaking here mixes tradition and modern precision: small family estates focus on micro-terroir, while the DOC framework supports diverse styles from fragrant single-varietal bottlings to ageworthy blends and dessert wines.

Climate & Terroir

The Colli Euganei enjoy a temperate continental climate tempered by nearby Adriatic influence. Soils are volcanic—tuff, basalt and trachyte—providing mineral lift and good drainage. Vineyards sit on varied exposures and slopes up to about 600 m, with cooler higher sites preserving acidity and lower slopes giving riper fruit, creating distinct microclimates across a compact area.

Signature Styles

  • Aromatic Moscato Fior d'Arancio (dry, sparkling and passito)
  • Merlot-driven red wines (fresh, medium-bodied)
