Trentino

Region Insight

Trentino, in northern Italy and the southern half of the Trentino-Alto Adige region, sits between the Alps and Lake Garda. The area combines alpine altitude and Mediterranean influence, producing wines with pronounced acidity, floral aromas and clear varietal character. Trentino is noted for its metodo classico sparkling wines (Trentodoc), elegant whites such as Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay, and distinctive local reds like Teroldego and Marzemino. A long history of small family estates, cooperative wineries and innovation in mountain viticulture has given Trentino a reputation for clean, food-friendly wines that marry alpine freshness with sun-ripened fruit.

Climate & Terroir

Trentino has an alpine-continental climate modified by Lake Garda in the south. Warm daytime sun and cool nights preserve acidity. Soils are varied: glacial moraine, gravelly plains (Piana Rotaliana), dolomitic limestone and alluvial deposits. Vineyards range from valley floors and terraces to steep slopes, often at higher elevations, giving pronounced minerality and aromatic precision.

Signature Styles

  • Trentodoc metodo classico sparkling wines
  • Crisp, aromatic alpine whites (Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay)
  • Fresh, medium-bodied local reds (Teroldego, Marzemino)
