Vittoria

Region Insight

Vittoria, a wine district centered on the town of Vittoria in the province of Ragusa, southeastern Sicily, is best known for producing Cerasuolo di Vittoria, Sicily’s only DOCG since 2005. The region combines coastal Mediterranean influences with warm, dry summers and cooling sea breezes that preserve acidity. Wine culture here blends ancient Sicilian vine-growing traditions with modern winemaking; small, family-run estates predominate alongside innovative producers. The signature Cerasuolo di Vittoria is a bright, medium-bodied red blend built primarily from Nero d'Avola and Frappato, showing red fruit, floral lift and savory Mediterranean herbs. Increasing interest in single-varietal expressions and careful cellar work has raised the region’s profile internationally.

Climate & Terroir

Vittoria has a warm Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers mitigated by nearby sea breezes. Soils are varied—clay, calcareous sediments and some alluvial deposits on gentle hills and plains—giving wines a mix of ripe fruit and mineral lift. Vineyards sit mostly at low to moderate elevations with exposures that favor thermal variation between day and night.
