Apulia

Region Insight

Apulia (Puglia) occupies Italy’s southeastern heel, a broad, sun‑baked region renowned for producing ripe, intensely flavored wines at scale. Historically a supplier of bulk wine for Italy and beyond, it has also developed a strong identity around indigenous grapes and terroir‑driven bottlings. Vineyards spread from coastal plains to low hills of Salento and the Gargano promontory, yielding robust, high‑alcohol reds, aromatic whites and fragrant rosés. Recent investments in canopy management, modern vinification and selective harvesting have elevated quality, spotlighting varietal character and regional typicity while retaining Apulia’s reputation for powerful, generous wines that pair well with hearty Mediterranean cuisine.

Climate & Terroir

Apulia has a Mediterranean climate with long, hot summers, high sun exposure and moderate rainfall. Soils range from limestone and calcareous marl to clay and sandy coastal deposits. Much viticulture occurs on flat plains, but notable sites sit on low hills and coastal terraces where breezes moderate heat. These conditions favor late ripening, concentrated sugars and robust phenolic development, while irrigation and soil type influence balance and freshness.
