Falerio

Region Insight

Falerio is a coastal DOC in the southern Marche region of Italy, historically linked to the area around the towns of Falerone and Faleria and the nearby Adriatic plain. The zone produces predominantly dry white wines that are bright, saline and medium-bodied, meant for early drinking and food pairing. Its modern reputation rests on lively aromatics—citrus, white flowers and stone fruit—with moderate alcohol and refreshing acidity. Though small and less famous than neighboring appellations, Falerio has benefited from renewed interest in local varieties and improved vineyard management over recent decades, emphasizing clean, varietal expression and coastal freshness.

Climate & Terroir

The DOC lies on gentle hills and the Adriatic plain, enjoying a temperate Mediterranean climate with cooling sea breezes that preserve acidity. Soils are mixed: calcareous clay, sandy deposits and alluvial pockets near the coast, offering good drainage and mineral notes. Vineyards on low to moderate slopes benefit from sun exposure and maritime influence, which moderates heat and aids freshness in the wines.
