In Detail
Trebbiano d'Abruzzo is a white Italian grape variety primarily associated with the Abruzzo region on Italy's Adriatic coast. While its origins are debated, it is widely cultivated in Abruzzo and neighboring central Italian regions. It is known for producing light- to medium-bodied wines characterized by their bright acidity and relatively neutral flavor profile. Common aromas include citrus fruits like lemon and lime, green apple, white blossoms, and subtle hints of almond or hay. In warmer climates, riper stone fruit and honeyed notes may emerge. Winemaking techniques vary, ranging from stainless steel fermentation for crisp, fresh wines to the use of oak for added complexity. It is also used in sparkling wine production. Trebbiano d'Abruzzo's high acidity and versatility make it an excellent food pairing wine, particularly with seafood, light pasta dishes, salads, and fresh cheeses.
