In Detail
Treixadura is a white grape variety primarily found in Galicia, northwest Spain, and northern Portugal. It is most famously associated with the Ribeiro DO, where it is often the dominant grape. Treixadura (Trajadura) also features in Rías Baixas blends and across the Vinho Verde region of Portugal. The vine thrives on granite and alluvial soils, producing moderate yields of medium-sized berries in loose clusters. Wines made from Treixadura are typically medium-bodied with moderate alcohol levels and vibrant acidity. The grape contributes a rounded texture to the mid-palate, making it valuable in blends. Aromas include white blossoms, citrus zest, ripe pear, and subtle stone fruit, sometimes with herbal or honeyed nuances. Winemakers employ both fresh, unoaked styles and lees-aged or lightly oaked versions to enhance complexity. Its balanced profile makes it ideal for pairing with seafood, grilled fish, shellfish, poultry in cream sauces, and mild cheeses.
